Off-season in Nice

My wife and I would like to go to Nice this fall. Would appreciate information on when to go when it would be off-season, less tourists, yet have nice weather. Names of places to stay would be helpful. Thanking you in advance for you help. Jim

Jim

Check out:

http://www.nice-coteazur.org/americain/index.html

It will give you lots of information on Nice as well as a listing on all the Hotels.

Nice is a great town with plenty to do both in the town and nearbye (Monaco, Cannes etc).

David

I was in Nice a few years ago during early November--loved it! The lack of tourists made it just an excellent place to be. I especially enjoyed the big Saturday flea market as well as strolling around the harbor checking out all the boats. We stayed in a one-star hotel that I won't recommend because most one-stars are the same--clean but nothing special. We just thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and had lots of impromptu picnics in the local parks and squares. Have fun.

Jim-my family and I wre in Nice in offseason a few years ago and loved it! We stayed at the Sofitel Splendid which was a few blocks off the water but we walked to everything(including train and bus stations for trips to Monaco,Cannes,St. Paul de Vence, etc.)It had a lovely pool on the top roof area with a viewof the entire area. However,if you can get the Meridien Hotel(right on the Promenade de Anglais )I would take that for a great location and less walking.PLEASE<PLEASE-have a wood cooked oven pizza at Taverna Massena for my daughter-we still can taste it???????Check back in the archieves on Nice in Fodors-it was a big help for us. Have a fabulous time! Debbie

Jim,

We have been to Nice several times in early January and have had a great time. The Hotel Splendid is a great choice; however, check into the Hotel Gounod (next door) which is owned and operated by the Splendid (the only difference is one less star), and you have access to all of the Splendid's amenities.

My favorite restaurant is the Barracuda, just down the street. They make a fantastic seafood pizza.

Also, another place you might want to check out is Menton, which is just before the Italian border.

Hope this helps.

Hi JIm

We went to this area in Nov 1999 and it was sunny 4/5 days we were there, though not particularly warm.

We got gorgeous rooms in Mas d'Artigny hotel in St Paul for 700FF inc breakfast (price for room and two people) compared with the usual price for that room of 2800FF plus breakfast.

Lovely hotel and staff, MUST have car to stay here.

Kavey
