One way costs approx. Euro 36/25 for 1st/2nd class on Eurostar from Rome to Naples. By using the IC train from Rome to Naples this lowers to Euro 25/19.

The Eurostar trains are newer, fancier, and a bit faster (about 1:45 from Rome to Naples instead of 2 hrs). But the IC trains are fine too. To get from Naples to Sorrento you can take the Circumvesuviana, a local commuter train that should only cost a couple of Euros.

ok - I'm contemplating the drive to the coast or the train. My concern with the train is dependency and hauling around luggage. The car concern is $$$$, parking, traffic.
Could someone give me a site to find the train schedule and prices?

I really want to stay in Ravello or Positano but I guess Sorrento is best for train travel?

Thanks

Last March we paid, in U.S. dollars, $30 each for 2nd class Rome-Naples round-trip tickets and a mere $5 each for 2 round-trip Naples-Sorrento tickets on the Circumvesuvian commuter train.

P.S. The SITA bus from Sorrento to Amalfi was only $2 per person round-trip.

Fares informed above are for both legs (FS and Circumvesuviana). For FS train schedules use (insert city names in Italian)

The Circumvesuviana train schedules are at

Hello DNN,

There's also an inexpensive direct Rome-Sorrento-Positano bus service in high season, which might be convenient with luggage.
