$ of Flights from NYC to Uk\K

It seems as though the price of a round trip ticket from JFK to Heathrow or Gatwick varies from day to day. Yesterday it was around $588 and today it is $748. I need to buy tickets for the beginning of July and I don't want to wait to long but I don't want to "overpay". Any ideas of what's going on to cause such different prices within 24 hours?

Zoom are currently offering around $400 for a return between JFK to LGW on randomly chosen July dates.

And yes, prices fluctuate. Contrary to the claptrap churned out by inept journalists who unquestioningly reprint lobbyists' propaganda, flights between London-New York are a highly competitive market, with around a dozen different airlines: a concept alien to the Government-subsidised apology for a free market that prevails on America's domestic routes.

So prices change from day to day. Amazing thing, a free market. America might try experimenting with one sometime.

Is there a "departure tax" of $80 when leaving the UK? Many of the Caribbean islands have this but this is the first I've heard of the UK charging people to leave. Pardon my ignorance, but what is "Zoom"?

Hi Putch - 'Pardon my ignorance, but what is "Zoom"?'

Good heavens - you'll be asking what the Tardis is next

I have never been made fun of on Fodor's but I guess there's always a first time. Pardon my ignorance regarding "Zoom".

Steve,
Do you happen to have the correct time?

You might try going to www.itasoftware.com and doing a "month-long" search for prices.

Today, the price JFK-LGW in July varies from $871 to $976.

Obviously you found cheaper fares which seem pretty good compared to the ones I saw..but the fares to and from LHR might be less.
