The Oktoberfest in Munich is fantastic and probably the most famous. Its like a State Fair.

Is there a specific part of October that Octoberfest occurs?

elberko Sep 3rd, 2003 11:57 AM

donnae-b, the dates, and much more, are on the site I mentioned above!

just to put this clear:

There is only ONE Oktoberfest in Germany. That's the fun fair in Munich.
Apart from that there are no other Oktoberfests (why should one celebrate Oktober in September anyway?)!

The web site that elberko gave me says Octoberfest begins September 20th.

HSV, if there is another web link to the "actual" octoberfest, please hook me up.

Thanks to both of you.

Oktoberfest generally begins in September and ENDS in October. If you are really planning ahead I suggest you make those hotel reservations NOW. The festivities take place in various parts of the city depending on the event and the day. Given the excellent public transport system in Munich getting to any of those locations is fairly simple.

Hi Donna,

The O'Fest is certainly the most famous, but you may also want to check out the Beer fest in Stuttgart.

Usually runs the same time as the Fest in Munich, just a bit less commercialized.

Just for the record......there are scores of late summer celebrations throughout Bavaria, both in Germany and Austria. They are generally called Octoberfest celebrations...Most are held outdoors, under tents, on the outskirts of the local town or city. They all include fabulous food and local brew, dancing, and a great deal of fun.
The Octoberfest that we generally hear about is the most famous one that occurs in Munich each September.

There seems to be some confusion as to when the Munich Oktoberfest happens. It always starts in September and ends in October. Presumably that is so because of weather conditions in southern Germany at that time of the year.
