October in Paris!
What kind of weather should I expect? Anything celebrated culture wise? I haven't found anything on the internet regarding it.
I plan on doing all the touristy things....Hop on Hop off bus, The river boat on and off, as many museums as possible. And all the other cool stuff.
Every time I have been to France it's been in Feb-March-April time, so I don't know what kind of weather to expect in Oct.
Thanks, Mamaw

I was there mid October last year and it was beautiful. Not too cold, but not hot either! It was probably high 60's or low 70's for the high. It always feels hotter in a city to me! (I did take an unlined jacket but didn't need it all the time) Sunny and wonderful!

Two years ago October had mild temps and not too much rain. But there were a lot of gray days. The second half turned damp. I never needed more than a light jacket and a scarf. The river boat was cold and you would want an extra layer and gloves if you go at night.
The nuit blanches is at the beginning of October.

Not to split hairs, but I was in Paris from 10/12 until 10/17 last Oct. and remember it being not nearly as warm as CarolA mentions. I checked on wunderground.com, and it did not hit 60 degrees on any of those days, and the lows were in the low 40ies. So I would not count on it being sunny and warm. Of course, it could be, but it could not be either. Take layers!

The European Month of Photography is set for mid-October through November 2010 and Paris is one of the seven host cities. The calendar of events wasn't available to the public when I last checked but something should be available in the next month or two. If you are a photography fan, take a look at this link: http://www.rendezvousfrance.com/photoparis.html

October is usually a good month for Paris, but with what we have had all over the world this year, so far, who knows!!
I was in Paris from the 1st of Nov til mid Dec. last year. Nov was unseasonably warm..really nice..winter arrived the day before I left! I am returning again for the month of Nov 2010.
a bientot..

I go to Paris each Oct-Nov and have usually had good weather, seldom any rain. I do do layers and am not particularly bothered by cold. I've always found the weather pleasant if I'm dressed for it. So many chances to stop in a cafe and warm up helps things along.

Don't recall the dates but the first week in Oct there will be the Vendage de Montmarte, parades, booths, wine, music!
As staed above check out hte websites for the Petit Palais and the Grand Palais.
I'd skip the hop on hop off bus and just ride the 95 or the69 regular bus , passes all the same sites and is way less expensive.

We were there first week of October last year and it was pleasant, but you'd be advised to bring a jacket and sweater. Foolishly went out one day without a jacket and had to buy one on the cool and windy Champs-Elysee (at Monoprix, one of my favorites).
Agree with above on tourist bus; instead buy museum and transportation passes (Paris Visite replaced Carte Orange and there is no little photo needed, plus it's good for consecutive days) so you don't feel restricted.

Mamaw:
Something different:
If you're going to be in Paris on the first Sunday in October, go to Longchamps for the Thoroughbred racing and take in the Arc de Triomphe, the most important horse race in Europe. Very exciting day: Beautiful horses, lots of pageantry, excited spectators, and the chance to win a few euros. A fascinating break from the usual cultural pursuits, including intense museum-going.

As Avalon has mentioned, the Vendanges at Montmartre was celebrated last year from October 7-11, 2009. Google the website from time to time to find out the dates for 2010. Their official website still has last year's activities on it today. It would be fun - there will be tasting, dances, parade, etc.
And of course, the nuit blanche. I agree with the other posters about the layers. I was there in early October last year and I used my jacket and scarves in the evenings.
