October Flight - Buy Ticket Now or Wait?

Flying into Venice and out of Rome from Orlando. Best price I've been able to find is around $950. Would you recommend buying it or waiting?

I know it is not nearly the same as Orlando, but today I checked Newark to Rome in November for a friend of mine and found $566. Checked on www.kayak.com. The flight was on Alitalia.

Correction: One leg was non-stop Alitalia and the other leg was Alitalia to London then Virgin.

We are flying an open jaw from Seattle to Rome, and back from Paris in October on Delta. Cost was $792.00. I got my tickets some time ago because of the good price. Of course I took the risk that Delta would not be around in October.

Still have my fingers crossed.

We bought Orlando/Rome 9/13, returning Venice/Orlando 9/28 about six weeks ago for $900 RT on Delta. I had been watching for 3-4 weeks prior. I saw prices just over $800 at the same time on Alitalia and Air Canada but preferred Delta.

We decided to buy since we wanted to lock in our hotel reservations and vacation time from work.

Have been tracking daily since and have seen prices for same itinerary from $921 through $1,050 on Delta, a little lower ($50 - $70) on other airlines.

Anything's possible going forward but with rising fuel prices and stories about non-stop demand for Italy, we decided not to play the wait and see game.

Try two separate reservations - one to London Gatwick on BA, the second Gatwick-Venice, Rome-Gatwick, also on BA. For arbitrary dates in October, I see those coming in $100 cheaper all in than your alternative.

Through-pricing for US-Italy is typically running higher than separate transatlantic and intra-Europe fares with the same origin and destination points (including open-jaws.)
