Oct. Euro Getaway - Thoughts on Dest.

Hello everyone!

I'm looking to take an 8 day trip (two days for travel- leaving me 6 days to tour) this Oct. Prob. leave on 10/13 and return on 10/21. Sat. the 13th would be my travel day. Sun the 14th my arrival and jetlag day. This would give me Mon. -Sat. (6 days) to explore. I'm leaning toward flying into Zurich and maybe doing Zurich, Lucerne and Interlaken? Maybe Sun. & Mon. in Zurich. Tues. and Wed. in Lucerne and Thur. -Sat. in Interlaken & back to Zurich on Sat. afternoon. Would this be too much?Typically, would the weather still be nice enough to hike etc. in Interlaken? I'm a 37 yr. old. male. Will be traveling by myself and love being in the mountains. Other dest. I'm considering are:

A) Vienna
B) Prague
C) Amsterdam
D) Paris or London

I've been to both Paris & London before and would love to go back to either but feel like I should go somewhere I've never been. If I went to London I could check out an EPL game etc. Switzerland just looks so beautiful and it's on my bucket list so I'm thinking I should go but my concern is the weather maybe not being great for hiking, going up on the funiculars etc. I've also already been to Munich and Salzburg so leaving them off this list. Any thoughts are appreciated. I'm throwing this together last minute but know there is still time to plan a wonderful trip. Thanks!

How about Mallorca or Ibiza? Lots of great hikes on both islands apparently (never been myself unfortunately), and much better temps/weather than the Alps in October.

Both destinations, Mallorca especially, can be easily and affordably reached by plane (check Air Berlin for example) from most European cities, so you can take in a city (Vienna and Paris for example) on each end, time permitting.

Hope this helps,
Andre

Those dates in Swiss Alps you can get pleasant weather or you can get snow high up. It is often foggy/cloudy - making seeing much from the mountains (or see a lot of them - problematic.

Nov is the usual month for hotels and restaurants to renovate and cable cars etc to be services - so I would check the operational dates of the places you want.

IMHO Zurich is really a business city - so I would spend more time in/around lucerne or up in one of the mountain towns above Interlaken. I think the mountains are much better in late May or June - but if this is the time you have - go for it. Just be prepared for Switz's incredibly high prices.

Obviously none of the other destinations have mountains. If given the choice I would probably do Prague - which I love - but Vienna actually has more to see/do.

Prague and Vienna would be very possible, though I would lean toward Prague and Berlin. October is beautiful in Prague though rain is a definite possibility. Still, days are mild and nights cool.

Another option for your mountain wandering is Slovenia. Just fly into Ljubljana, and then go into the Julian Alps and the Soca River Valley. Bovec is a mountain sports wonderland.
