Oct 2000 itinerary - Zurich to Rome in two weeks - help?

My husband and I are taking my parents to Italy in October and need help with an itinerary. None of us have been before. We are thinking of flying into Zurich (and taking the train through the Alps) and flying out of Rome. The only mandatory stop is Sassoferato (in the Ancona region) which is where my grandparents are from. Any suggestions would be great! Thank you.

If you want a close up of some of the mountains, let me know. I can make some suggestions.

Susan, That is potentially one of the best itineraries in Europe. I will email
you directly with some ideas, but it
should include the Bernese Oberland,then
Lugano and the Lakes, Tuscany/Florence,
and on to Rome. I would think about doing it in late Sep. early Oct to be
on the safe side with the weather.

Hi,

Newbie here. Am planning to take the same route - in to Zurich and out of Rome. Would 2 weeks be enough for that trip? Sir Bob, mind sending me the same itinerary you advised Miss Susan?

Many thanks.
