Oberhofen Hilterfingen or Gunten

I'm off to the Oberhofen,Hilterfingen Gunten area of the Bernese Oberland again during Winter 2005,and this time I am searching for a really nice apartment or bed and breakfast to spend a couple of blissful weeks.
Ideally I would like a full lake to mountain vista so an elevated situation would be perfect. All suggestions greatly appreciated.

Hi. I'm topping this for you though I don't have any specific lodging recommendations. The lake/mountain views are lovely from that side if I can remember my visit to the castle at Oberhofen. You might also consider Sigriswil, which is a bit above the lake on that side. (image search at altavista) Have you taken a look at thunersee.ch which is the lake's website? It's a start. J.

Tina, have you been to those villages in winter before? Sounds so, but I don't believe it. They are shut down in winter, most of the hotels are closed.

Weather wise it is not a good idea to lodge in the villages by the lake. In winter very often fog and clouds make for a grey sky and depressing mood, while the sun shines in the mountains. Better stay in a village high up in the mountains.

Ingo, thank goodness you've arrived. I know nothing about winter travel. What about Sigriswil, no? J.

Hi jw,

Sigriswil sounds better than the villages right on the lake, but it is a little inconvenient for day trips, since you have to take the bus from Sigriswil down to the lake each time.
