Oban or Loch Lomond?
During our tour of Scotland, we (a family of three from India) have 3 days outside Edinburgh. We are renting a car from Edinburgh. Which is a better place to stay -- Oban or Loch Lomond? We can always drive from one place to the other for a visit. Many thanks in advance.

I'd pick Oban in a heartbeat.
|
I would too, Sheila. I really liked Oban a lot.
|
Thanks, Sheila, that was quck!
Another question, from Edinburgh to Oban by car, would you say we need to spend any time to sight-see? I know whole of Scotland is beautiful. But still... |
Loch Lomond is a long lake so where do you actually mean? For a town - Oban.
But where are you coming from/going to? There might be even better options. |
Oh sure. The drive time is about 3 hours. Allow at least 5.
|
weird - when I posted, your second post didn't show even though it was more than an hour ago???
Anyway - Between Edinburgh and Oban is so much to see/do you could spend a week. Falkirk Wheel, Stirling, the beautiful Trossachs, lochs/waterfalls, Doune Castle, Inchmahome/Lake of Menteith, Kilchurn, Killin/Falls of Dochart, Invererary and more . . . . |
Thanks all of you.
janisj, we plan to drive from Edinburgh to Oban and back (on a 3-day trip). Wondered if there are must-see place enroute? |
"<i>Wondered if there are must-see place enroute?</i>"
Yes - the places/sites I mentioned in my previous post (plus more) |
If Oban was a destination, I would stop at Linlithgow Palace, the Falls of Dochart, Loch Awe, and Cruachan Power Station (I know, but it's worth it!), and anywhere else that took my fancy en route.
I'd do the loop and on the way back I'd spend a morning in Kilmartin Glen, nip up to Crinan for lunch, stop in Inverary, and at the top of the Rest and Be Thankful, and on Loch Lomond. |
We loved Oban and especially the Glenburnie Guest House. If you haven't chosen a place to stay yet check it out at www.glenburnie.co.uk.
It is nicely situated on the Esplanade with lovely sea views and an easy walk into town. |
Many many thanks Sheila, Janisj, Royal!

Well i would say drive to Oban and perhaps take ferries to explore the surrounding islands of Mull, Islay, Arran etc. Eat out at Eeusk or Waterfront, spend time on Skye or Oban / Mull, Islay etc., Go to Fort William and take the Steam Train to Mallaig.
