Budget? Style?

Any style, budget £60 to £85 double room per night

If you're interested in something really unique just a few miles outside of Oban, you can stay in an authentic 16th-century castle. We were there two years ago and it was an unforgettable experience.

Sorry, just noticed that the price range you're looking for is per room (not per person), which makes Barcaldine a bit over your budget. Still, it's a great experience if you want to splurge.

I stayed in the Royal Hotel 2 years ago but it was in need of a makeover. The location was good though.
Take a look at this website. http://www.scotland-info.co.uk/oban-hotels.htm |
Same feelings about The Royal and we stayed there 5 years ago...it must be VERY tired by now. But if you can see it as faded glory or shabby chic instead of just a bit dreary, they serve a fabulous breakfast, the best of our trip to Scotland.

I see that The Royal is expensive on laterooms. If looking to stay there,I would try the hotel direct. We paid a very cheap price for a double room.

will you have a car? I personally wouldn't stay IN Oban but somewhere in the surrounding countryside. I have stayed in the town but only when I needed to catch an early morning ferry.
If you do want to stay in town - this one is nice http://www.obanguesthouse.co.uk/tariff.asp A few miles out - check these http://www.lagganbuie.co.uk/ http://freespace.virgin.net/tom.kilmelford/ http://www.ardshouse.com/ |
We enjoyed our stay at the Barriemore, at the end of the esplanade in Oban. Nice rooms, good views, good breakfast, delightful owner.

Nowhere in Oban is much good, these days. They all do faded grandeur. Dungallan House is probably the best of a bad lot.
I went and looked up visitscotland in an attempt to remember the name of the last place I stayed on the Esplanade and am shocked (but not surprised) to discover that there are only 4 hotels in membership. In the whole town. Just shows it's a seller's market |
