Obama at Omaha

It was finally confirmed yesterday that Obama will be in Normandy on the 6th.
No doubt there will be a ceremony in the cemetery.
That will make the day even a bit more special.
Getting around on the day will be more difficult with the increased security.

6th of what?

Cathinjoetown Mar 27th, 2009 09:14 AM

I think you can safely assume June 6th-65th anniversary of D-Day--the Normandy Allied landings including Omaha Beach.

Thousands of GIs that gave their lives for freedom and the American Dream are rolling over in their graves.

Thousands of GIs that gave their lives for freedom and the American Dream are rolling over in their graves.</i>

Actally, they're only just now winding down from the 2000 election and the utter ruin it brought the country.

(<I>p.s.</i> GIs don't fight for Mother, Apple Pie, or partisan bullshit. They fight for each other.)

"Thousands of GIs that gave their lives for freedom and the American Dream are rolling over in their graves."

Why? Do you really believe someone from a country that took no part in a war that finished 60 years ago should have every date of its every event stamped on their mind?

"Thousands of GIs that gave their lives for freedom and the American Dream are rolling over in their graves."

Why would you write this? Why would they be rolling over in their graves? Please explain.

Would this just be the white soldiers rolling over in their graves or would the black soldiers be rolling too?

If our local TV would give this news so far from teh date, it certainly would help be reminded of dates for ANYthing, especially such an important event.

I am sure my history buff husband remembers ALL the dates of major events.. but not me! Not too difficult to get months mixed up.

I knew I should have googled for the answer instead of showing my ignorance here.

Oh well. Most of you don't have that snide reaction to my posts, thank goodness, but I certainly will refrain from the "easy way out" for info in the future.
