nuremberg to prague
We need a sugestion to go from Nuremberg to Prague. Train, bus, car ?
Thanks a lot |
By far the easiest and cheapest is the express bus, run by German railways. It will get you from Nuremberg to Prague in 3hours 45 minutes and they run 6 times a day. If you book early you can get very good deals at http://www.bahn.de
Have a good trip! http://www.jeremytaylor.eu/prague_photos.html |
The bus leaves from outside the Nuremberg railway station and is faster than the train link by far.

Is there a difference between 1st and 2nd class on the bus?
|
I bought a 2nd class ticket and it was fine - typical bus seat. My seat was upstairs but the bus was not full so I chose a different seat on the same level. It seems that they seat everyone up front and I didn't want to sit next to anyone so I moved.
Buy some food/drink before getting on the bus - there is only snack service and it's a bit expensive. |
With first class you sit downstairs (where the view is not so good) but you might get a table. I think there might also be a free drink thrown in. In my opinion, not worth it - as Adrienne said, grab some food/drink at the station. I've travelled quite a few times on this route. Most times, the bus is around half full, just occasionally it is completely full.

I will also be traveling from Nurenberg to Prague. I plan to take a taxi to the bus station from the pier. When the bus arrives in Prague, will I be able to get a taxi to take me to my hotel or do I need to arrange this in advance?
I am trying to decide whether to travel 1st or 2nd class? Are the seats more comfortable, is there more room in 1st? I don't care about the table. Are there really any significant differences between classes? I assume I will be traveling on a double decker bus. Is there a bathroom on the bus? I've never traveled on a bus in Europe and would appreciate any information. Thanks. Mollybee |
Mollybee - You obviously didn't read this thread. The bus originates from the front of the train station (Nuremberg Hbf) so I hope you're not going to the bus station to get the bus to Nuremberg.
Don't know about the difference in seats between classes as I didn't see 1st class but the 2nd class seats were fine. Yes, there is a bathroom on the bus. You can get a taxi in Prague. I arranged for a car service since I was staying in Prague 6 and it was less expensive to use a private car. I used: http://www.mike-chauffeur.cz/ Mike was waiting at the bus station with my name on a card and he stopped at an ATM so I could get Czech Kroner. |
BTW the bus comes into Prague at the main train station (Hlavni),you will be able to get taxis from there but there are a few dodgy taxi companies about that area,i would advise a private pick up or arrange a pick up with AAA Taxis.

I went on the bahn.de website to book tickets from Nuremberg to Prague. I tried to get on 3 different buses but was told that they were full -1st and 2nd classes. The other times were not good so I didn't even try. The date was August 3rd. Is that a holiday?
I then called raileurope which uses the same buses. For the 2nd class seats the price was $87 pp. If I could get a booking on bahn.de, the price was 38 Euros for two tickets. The time I wanted was available on raileurope, but bahn.de stated that seats were not available. I tried calling bahn.de, but that was a waste of time. I am confused. I'm sure I went through the booking process correctly, unless there's a trick I don't know. After what I read in the forum, I never thought I would have a problem. I wonder if raileurope and bahn.de have some sort of arrangement. I am holding the seats on raileurope but I feel I am being ripped off. I sent bahn.de an e-mail but their response was to refer to the website. Any ideas? I would like to speak to someone at bahn.de, but I'm stymied. I was wondering if everything is really full or if there may be something wrong with the website. |
I tried the bus leaving at 12:41 and got all the way to where you enter your credit card. I didn't want to go further. The schedule shows fares for E19 and and E48 so I'm assuming there are seats left.
When you get to the schedule page find the time you want to leave and click on the red purchase tag. On the next screen click on continue for the fare you want. The next screen defaults to print out your online ticket (this is the option you want). Click proceed. Click proceed again. Click on I wish to book w/o logging in and then continue booking. After that is the credit card information. Is that when you were told there are no seats? Close your browser and try again. Do not spend the money on raileurope. If they say that they can sell you a ticket then there must be seats available. I bought a ticket last year with no problem. Maybe there was a glitch in the process. |
After I completed all the info, credit card etc., and then went to book the ticket I was told there were no seats available-1st or 2nd class on the 7:41, 8:41,9:41. I didn't try anything later because I really want to get on an earlier bus if possible. Also, there doesn't seem any way to check availability before going through the whole booking process.
I sent them an e-mail and hope I get a response. |
Good luck, Molly. Although August is a big holiday month you are going mid week and it's a large bus and there are many per day so I can't imagine every seat is sold out.

I am taking this bus from Nuremburg to Prague next week. I assume the bus is not too difficult to find as you say it is in the front the the train station. I have only 20 minutes from my train arrival from Stuttgart to find the bus. So I want to make sure I have this lined out before I get there.
|
<< I assume the bus is not too difficult to find >>
You walk out the front door of the station and look right. It's a huge white bus. You can't possibly miss it. |
Thanks for the info. One more question--I have contacted Mike's car service that you mentioned. How did it work out with him? Apparently Prague is one city you really have to be careful with such matters. I live in Germany where you can trust 99% of the taxis at train stations, airports, etc.
|
Mike was excellent. He was at the station when I arrived and had a card with my name on it. We stopped at an ATM so I could get cash. He will take credit cards but prefers cash and I needed some anyway. You can definitely trust Mike.
I was staying in Prague 6 so it was cheaper for me to get a car service than take a taxi from the station (I asked my pension how much a taxi would cost so I knew the rate). If you're staying in the historic center you could probably take public transport. If you take a taxi check for meters and ask how much to your address before you get in the car. |
Thanks for your reply. Even though it is not far (we are staying at the US Embassy apartments) and would be cheaper on public transportation, I would just as soon pay Mike and not worry about directions on the subway. Will save that for the next few days in Prague after I meet up with my friend at the hotel. When 2 heads are better than one...

We are traveling from Nuremberg to Prague in Dec. Is there weather concerns traveling by bus? Should we travel by train because of time of the year? Is there a place on the bus for luggage We will have a carry on and also a larger piece for each of us.I am confused regarding ticketing. Am I understanding that 1 ticket can be used for the 4 of us? Can someone clarify. Thank you
|
You can't go from Nuremberg to Prague by train unless you route yourself via Vienna or Berlin.
There is a compartment for luggage beneath the bus and a small ledge over your seat for carry on bags. You each need a ticket but you can purchase them together - one piece of paper for 4 people (4 tickets). |
