Number of Days In Rome???
 

Okay so we have finalized our trip to Europe this summer. We will fly from California to Rome on the July 17th and arrive the morning of the 18th. Currently we are thinking of staying in Rome the nights of 18th, 19th, 20th and 21st. We have been to Rome before for just a day before and already have seen the Vatican/St. Peters along with the Coleseum so we don't need to see those sights again. With that in mind is four nights in Rome to much to see the other sights? Should we use one of the days as a day trip outside of Rome? Any comments would be appreciated. Thanks

You were in Rome one day and saw the Vatican, St. Peter's, and the Coliseum? First thing I'd suggest is to go back and pick one of those three to see again, this time more leisurely. Other than that, I can recommend the incredible cathedrals of Rome for the better part of a day, the monuments and fountains for at least half a day, and perhaps a train trip one day to Orvieto. If anything, it is not enough time! But it depends on what you want to see and do.

Definitely not too much. I have spent 45 days in Rome and have only ever taken 2 daytrips. I still have lots on my list to see. I leave next Friday for another 8. :-d

Okay I see from the comments I won't run out of things to do!!! Actually after traveling all the way fro California that first day we may be somewhat "out of it" anyway.

just off the top of my head, you could fill your days with the forum [no longer free] the capitoline museums, the borghese gallery and gardens, the scavi tour of St. Peter's, San clemente, Trastevere, a day trip to ostia antica...or just wandering around having a good time.

the wonderful thing about Rome, IMHO is not just that there is something to see round every corner, there is something remarkable before the corner and on it too.

remember that it wil be warm in July [hopefully] so don't try to cram too much in.

Thanks everyone for your replys. One more question on a different subject. This is regarding the shopping in Rome. When we were in Florence a few years we did some great shopping at the outside market I believe its called San Lorenzo Square. They have leather goods etc.. but not necessarily designer clothes. Is there a similar place in Rome where you can buy "non designer" leather goods??

No, ronnieh, there isn't a market in Rome that is similar to the San Lorenzo street market.
