Number 1 hotel in Rome

Is there an undisputed number 1 hotel in Rome? If so, please let me know.

My guess would be the Hassler, but I wouldn't say it's "undisputed." Everything is disputed on this board.

The Excelsior, in my opinion, is the best in Rome.

From a previous post of mine - -

the spectacular (newly multi-billion lire renovated) St. Regis Grand hotel on Piazza della Repubblica

makes this claim - - not only number one in Rome, but number one in all of Europe. I have only had dinner there, and it certainly is spectacular. But location makes a place number one as much as anything, and this would not be my personal choice for the best location in Rome.

All in the eye of the beholder.

Best wishes,

Rex

According to Conde Nast, the Grand Hotel de la Minerve is best. It's interesting to note that they give higher ratings to hotels in a number of other Italian cities.

Have to agree with Conde Nast, the Minerva was tops with us. Great hotel, fab view from the rooftop bar/restaurant, more reasonable rates than some other of the "best", and the clincher was the dynamite location, steps from the Pantheon. A real find.

Having been to both the Hassler and the St. Regis Grand, I would say that in terms of furnishings and luxury, it's the St. Regis Grand by a hair, but I don't care for the location of the St. Regis Grand. The Hassler is in a much better location, and I've been hearing much about Hotel de Russie after its renovation, you can search this board for comments on Russie.

By far the De Russie. It is my favorite, especially if you have the money to stay there.

The de Russie would be my choice over the Hassler. I like the location , nr the Pza.de Popoli, just a short walk from the Spanish Steps . I hate the climb to the Hassler if you at the bottom!
