Now this is taking adventure tourism a bit too far....

<i>On Friday afternoon, a young American in Tübingen had to be rescued by 22 firefighters after getting trapped inside a giant sculpture of a vagina.

.......

Police confirmed that the firefighters turned midwives delivered the student "by hand and without the application of tools".

The mayor of Tübingen told the Süddeutsche Zeitung newspaper that he struggled to imagine how the accident could have happened, "even when considering the most extreme adolescent fantasies. To reward such a masterly achievement with the use of 22 firefighters almost pains my soul."</i>

I thought for a minute you might be talking about the Prince of Wales who wanted to be someone's tampon.

bilboburgler Jun 23rd, 2014 08:02 AM

surely he could have just waited until he was less excited?

kleeblatt Jun 23rd, 2014 10:03 AM

Before entering the vagiantas, please mind the gap.

traveller1959 Jun 23rd, 2014 10:53 AM

>>>surely he could have just waited until he was less excited?<<<

I am afraid, I have read in the German newspapers that it was his foot that was trapped. Strange Americans!

kleeblatt Jun 23rd, 2014 10:54 AM

We've all put our foot into it sometime in our lives.

Somehow, the giant sculpture reminds me of an early Woody Allen movie which displayed what can happen if another female organ becomes pretty big.

In the Allen movie from 1972, the scientists finally found a method to ban the organ.

Who will give Tübingen's mayor proper advice?

Nikki Jun 23rd, 2014 11:19 AM

Tourist didn't do enough research. Should have come to Fodor's and would have been warned to stay out of giant vagina sculpture. When will people learn to ask us for more specific advice?

LuvToRoam Jun 23rd, 2014 11:31 AM

LOL, a talk show host was talking about this earlier today. We will be in Germany in September and I'm sure the friends we will visit in Nurtingen will be aware of this story :) I'll bet his parents are really happy....

traveller1959 Jun 23rd, 2014 12:20 PM

LuvToRoam, I will doubt if your friends from Nürtingen know this story. Actually, I am in doubt if people in Nürtingen know how to make fire.

Does history record WHY there is a statue of a giant vagina in front of the university building in Tuebingen?

Cowboy1968 Jun 23rd, 2014 08:27 PM

The papers do not give any clue - except that the sculpture had been standing in front of one faculty building for 13 or so years without getting any real attention - until now.
Actually, his parents WILL be really happy that the firefighters were able to get him out of there without partly destroying the sculpture, as it has a value of €120K.
Tübingen has been mostly a university town for several hundred years, and the locals are pretty much used to stunts or practical jokes by students...
