Now this is a Great idea!
|
Truly an inspired notion.
Which I have been doing for 42 years. |
By the time we board our flight, I've crammed all the info into my brain that is going to fit. For me, the flight is to relax, nap, and generally be in a 'zen' mode.
|
For those too lazy to go to there (I almost was)
Singapore Airlines is offering on most of its fights, in-flight language tutorials. For those of us using other airlines, there is a series of quickie language courses (about 80-90 minutes long) with CD and book, called "In-flight". |
Wasn't there a long and vitriolic thread about how many Fodorites' don't want others to be able to talk on cell phones "in-air"?
And we're okay with a cacophony of "Buongiorno's" "Koennen Sie mich hilfen's" and Konnichi-wa's"? ;) Best wishes, Rex |
I wouldn't mind the buongiornios any more or less than the inane cell phone conversations I can't help but overhear every day
("Hi, I'm on the bus now.Just turning onto Fifth Avenue") The key would be to keep it all at a very low volume level, as any conversation in a public place should be. But I guess we can't trust everyone to be considerate. :-( |
Sorry about just posting the link. Last time I quoted a whole article, my thread was deleted.
I hadn't thought about the noise level as a result of people speaking along with the tutorial. (Although, this could be rather intertaining!) It may be more of an annoyance. I just thought it was a good idea for people who wanted to brush up on the basics of the native language before they arrived. |

Whoops, that should have been "entertaining", not "intertaining"!
Duh! (Darn this post my reply button!!) |
To continue in Mr. Green's "i" and "e" mixup vein, I think the proposition of sitting next to someone practicing Italian for ten hours in the seat next to me would prove to be very Earitating.

"sitting next to someone practicing Italian for ten hours in the seat next to me..."
That'll teach me to post quickly. ((H)) |
