now the fun stuff - need dining recs near Goult

One of the reasons we rented our gite is that we can walk to Goult from the house. We will be there with our kids, 12 and 14. I don't want to have to drive more than 20 minutes for dinner. Dining recs appreciated!

There are only a few modest restaurants in Goult to begin with, so I don't think it will be a big decision. The only ones I know of are:

La Terrasse
Aux Fines Herbes
Le Carillon
Bartavelle

also, there is a modest cafe/tabac (Cafe de la Poste) for very casual food.

I've only eaten at the cafe and La Terrasse that I can recall. La Terrasse was good. It's right in the center on rue de la Republique, can't miss it, it's right across from a parking lot. It think it changed hands not too many years ago but is still open and reviews okay on Tripadvisor. Actually, Tripadvisor is as good a place as any to look as they seem to have reviews on all the trestaurants there.

Christina-thanks. I know the ones in Goult. Am trying to figure out what other villages are nearby for dinners.

When we were there last my husband and I ate at a lovely 1* Michelin (this was 14 yrs ago!) where we ate outside in lovely gardens with lanterns hanging from trees. I thought it was near Gordes.

With teens, I want to keep it pretty casual but would love 1 or 2 wow experiences (but don't want to get dressed up.)

My favorites are in the itinerary I sent to you. But here they area again

When I recall my best dining experiences in Provence, very few restaurants at the top of my list are in the Luberon. There are several Michelin “starred” restaurants in the area, but when I checked them out I thought they were a little too pricey & perhaps too formal for my tastes. I don’t recommend any of the restaurants in the Gordes village center. We like Estellan near Les Imberts, Mas Tourteron (beautiful outdoor setting) in Les Imberts, and Bartavelle (best in good weather when you can dine outside) in Goult, and the new (as of '14) Le Carillon also in Goult. Just like in Nice, in '14 we decided to "experience" Michelin starred restaurants. We dined at five such restaurants - 3 of which were in large/fancy 5 star resorts/spas. Of the five, the "un-assuming" (looks like an office in a strip mall from the road) le Vivier* just north of l'Isle sur la Sorgue had the best food. I would return to Xavier Mathieu* in Joucas at the Hostelliere le Plebus. I would only return to the other "resort" restaurants in the Luberon if a view and "see & be seen" were my objectives.

Stu, I have your list but how far are these from Goult? That is what I was wondering.

We ate at Bartavelle last July. It was very nice, but you MUST make reservations as soon as they allow them (I think one week before) or you will have no chance of getting a table.

oh, I thought you wanted to walk to them.

I've eaten in Le Vivier, also, it is one of my favorite in the area. And when it is so hot, it is pleasant because it is right next to the river (there is terrace dining). All were just locals when I was there (but me), it's probably one of the nicest restaurants to go out to around there. It wasn't in a strip mall, though, I presume we are talking about the same place, it's a restaurant next to the Cantosorgue motel (I thought it was part of the motel). You'd think it would be nothing given it is part of a cheaper motel, but it was really good food. It looks like Vivier bought that restaurant and redecorated it a bit, but it's the same place from what I see online. I was there before 2014, when it says the current chef was there. SO I guess my comments on the food are irrelevant if it's changed owners, but it is a pleasant spot. It's more expensive now, though.

It's probably a bit more than 20 minutes from Goult, though, I'd say 30 minutes, it's about 20 km, after all. I know a great restaurant in Pernes-les-Fontaines near where I"ve stayed several times, but that would be more like 40 minutes frm Goult.

Roussillon would be closer to Goult, there are several restaurants there you can choose from. Bistrot Roussillon has a great location as it overlooks the hills (part of it, anyway), and is typical bistro food, I thought it was okay but I'm really not that picky, don't dine n Michelin restaurants and am not a foodie. YOu have to be really bad for me to care. I think the Restaurant David is the nicest restaurant in Roussillon (part of Hotel Clos Glycine) and quite attractive. I know it is well regarded but I didn't eat there. Prix fixe would be more like 35-50 euro, I think. http://www.luberon-hotel.fr/en/le-restaurant.html
