November Rome weather

Can anybody tell me how the weather is like in November in Rome? I heard it is warmer than New York or Chicago. Thanks

I was in Rome last year from November 9-19. The weather was in the low-60's during the day down to the low 50's at night. I would say that it is similar to NYC; certainly warmer than say Upstate New York. There were some periodic showers, specially mid-afternnon early evening. I'll side with many other posters who advise layers; warm shirts/sweaters/ cardigans/jackets. The most important accessory will be your coat (which can double as a rain coat) and a good comfortable pair of boots. I just bought a gorgeous, comfortable pair of boots (ankle height) at Sears for my Nov trip to Paris. You do not need to spend a lot to be comfortable.

If going to the Vatican had out early; the Vatican closes early afternoon in Nov. Have a great time. I took my Mom to Rome last year (she lives in Puerto Rico), and she LOVED it including the weather, which she thought was perfect for long walks.

A good place to start is Fodor's Rome pages: click on "Destinations", then Rome. Halfway down the page on the left is weather info. You can compare the averages to NY and Chicago and check the ten day forecast just before you go for last minute adjustments.

We, too, had weather in the 50s and 60s in November--leather jacket weather. We also had some rain. However, that didn't stop us from seeing and doing and keeping on the go. Just bring an umbrella.

Would a winter coat be too much to take? How windy does it get? Are hotels heated well?

We're going Nov.8th so this is timely info for us too. I'm thinking the winter coat would be too heavy though...

and would a poncho be wiser than an umbrella?

Unless it is unusually cold, you won't need winter coats. As I previously wrote, leather jackets were perfect....and we were in Italy until late November.
