November Honeymoon in Europe (Greece, Italy, Switzerland) Help
Aloha All...
Man planning a honeymoon is more sadistic than planning the actual wedding, vacation funds may actually go to psychotherapy unless i find some great input!! Save me!! anyone?? ;) We are planning a November Honeymoon, want to do Europe...We live in Hawaii and both from the snow, so weather wont bug us so much, I hear November is not so good in Greece or Italy..We want good food, good wine, some cultural stuff, hiking, maybe paddling, etc We are backpacker type travelers but dont want to do a lot of planning..villas, B & Bs would be cool. We are thinking Sicily, Switzerland, Italy but dont know where is nice, and maybe Belgium.. 10 days total... any thoughts? mahalo nui loa! matt |
Hi mattmelissa,
Unfortunately, November isn't a great time for Switzerland either; it is after the flowers and foliage, and before the snow. If this is late, late November, you may be able to hit some Christmas markets in Germany and Austria -- I would head south! s |
Alas, any time is a good time to get married, but for a honeymoon, November is not the best, for canoe-paddling & warmth, unless you want to head for Caribbean or S.E. Asia & you specifically say Europe. You have to work with the limitations... Europe it's getting colder, with some rainy times. So, would emphasize the cultural, and the plusses ... and those are that Europe's great cities are entering their vibrant "seasons."
How about Paris? Still the most romantic city for lovers ... Madrid? Vienna? Athens? Rome? (skip Venice unless you like wading). On sunny days you can still do sidewalk cafes in all these places -- and you have museums, restaurants, theatre, dance, nightclubs. Enjoy! |
November could still be good in Athens- 2 years ago I went to a sea-side village and the weather was perfect; we suntanned (but did not have the guts to swim), sat outside to eat both morning and evening, and it was just beautiful.
However its true that the weather is changing so you would possibly have some rainy days too (as we did this last year). Obviously, living in Athens, I love it and think its a great place to visit come rain or sun. |
I thinks some of Italy might be very nice, and likewise some of Spain.
It's easier for me to advise about Italy, but for great food, Rome and areas south of Rome, including Napoli, Sorrento and Pompeii, could make a great honeymoon. There is beautiful hiking along the Sorrentine Penisula and the Amalfi coast. In November, it can still be nice, especially for hiking. If you've a yen to go to Sicily, you could have a lot of fun, but you'd need a car. |
