What a great trip report. We spent the last two weeks of September in Paris in an apartment on the Ile de St. Louis. Amazing how similar our stay was and your report really brought back so many memories. We did so many of the same things right down to dinner at Sorza where I had the grilled eggplant and pesto appetizer. Thanks so much for taking the time to write such a marvelous trip report.

Your last night in Paris----MDH loves Marco Polo! I had to read him your review. Between that and Luxembourg Gardens, he was reliving our many trips there. BTW, the older gentleman is Albano and he always acts like he remembers you.
I must tell you how much I enjoyed your report. I will read it again through the long winter here in Wisconsin. We've already been talking about Sept. 2015 and Amsterdam, Bruges, and then more Paris sounds like a good plan.

I was so surprised to find that my trip report had been topped. I was delighted to read all your comments & kind words. Thank you!
It has been wonderful for me to be able to 'pay forward' all those posters from whom I gleaned so many fantastic ideas & suggestions during the planning stages of our trip.
I will come back again when I have more time to respond to your replies.

John: I am so glad that the trip report will be helpful as you plan the Paris portion of your trip. And lucky you to be spending time in Provence! It should be lovely there in the spring. Have you decided where you will stay?

For many years, we've had this nice arrangement with our friends to take each other's dog while on holiday. It has happened only once or twice that we've planned trips at the same time. In that case, the pooches get to stay at the posh Rex Hotel & Spa for dogs! Either way, it works out very well for all!
mamcalice: What a coincidence you were in Paris at the same time! Perhaps we passed each other somewhere along the way. Yes, that was me on Thursday taking a selfie with my shopping bags on Pont de la Tournette with Notre Dame in the background! ;-)

TAYPT: DH & I wished we had gone to Marco Polo earlier in our stay so we could have enjoyed another dinner there! We will definitely go back on our next trip to Paris. Hopefully, the very charming, Albano will be there to greet us!

2010 - I noticed that quite a lot of the windows were lacking glass, so I doubt that anything apart from individual electric blankets would help. I think you'd have to be a pretty determined [or masochistic] worshipper to sit out a service in winter in that church - there must be some warmer ones in the area.

annhig - We visited a church in Bavagna, Italy where we saw an electric patio heater set in an aisle! It was a much smaller church, of course. I know where I would be sitting if I attended a service here in winter!

2010 - on the very same trip we went into San Suplice in Paris and it was positively warm, so much so that many of the local homeless were congregating there as well. The warmth coming up through the grills in the floor was bliss.
