note on a scandal

very funny take on the Paris sex scandal

kerouac Feb 16th, 2015 09:04 PM

Do they actually consider that to be a scandal in the U.S.?

Robert2533 Feb 16th, 2015 09:23 PM

A Paris sex scandal? I guess some would consider something like this as a scandal if you happen to be stuck in Boston during a very long, cold and snowy winter.

nytraveler Feb 17th, 2015 04:37 AM

It seems to me that the French may be very good at exploring their sexuality but not so good at actual adult love.

But agree that this is not a political scandal - just a nasty personal mess.

Only those who complained about Bill Clinton's indiscretion would think so - the same people who seem to confuse the presidential oath of office with the wedding vows.

kerouac Feb 17th, 2015 04:49 AM

Well, there are fewer messy divorces than there used to be because the number of marriages in France is down to the same level as in 1950 when the population was 41,800,000 compared to 65,800,000 now.

And so it goes! (Kurt Vonnegut, Slaughterhouse-Five)

I doubt most Americans follow this and may not know who DSK is.

Grandma Feb 17th, 2015 07:52 PM

cigale… we certainly know who DSK is here in Manhattan -:)

But at my age all I can say about all these stories, situations, etc….

'Twas ever thus.

????

Am I the only person who has concluded nytraveler only travels to ny but has never lived there? Or never leaves her airconditioned apartment if she does? Or had a conversation in French (let alone a French lover).

She must have a unique definition of "adult" love. A uniquely childish one.

So you super-sophisticates don't regard the criminal trial of the former head of the IMF and would-be President of France for pimping to be a sex scandal?

66 million Frenchmen must be wrong:

Robert2533 Feb 19th, 2015 09:15 AM

You're referring to an article pinned by an Englishman living abroad in France talking about how the French feel about this story? Actually, it's more of a soap opera, a distraction from everything else going on right now.

Besides, it's French people, not Frenchmen.

Bedar Feb 19th, 2015 09:23 AM

It's a comedy right out of a Pink Panther movie, esp going off on his scooter to see a girlfriend !

kerouac Feb 19th, 2015 09:41 AM

I am always amazed when people from one country try to pin their values on another country. In that case, perhaps the values of Saudi Arabia or Iran should be applied to the United Kingdom or the United States, and then we would have a whole lot of scandals to talk about.

dwdvagamundo Feb 19th, 2015 11:16 AM

Robert--

What else is a sex scandal except "a soap opera, a distraction from everything else going on right now?" It's certainly been in the French on-line newspapers a lot lately.

And I said and meant "66 million Frenchmen". It's a riff on an old song:

Kerouac--I don't think that we uptight and insular Americans are just making this up:

I think you may be confusing the issues. Illegal activity and immoral activity are completely different things.
