not flying all legs of trip?

Chance for a nice trip to London if I don't have to continue to Dublin! I found a flight on Lufthansa from NYC to Dublin, connection in London. What happens if I don't continue through to Dublin? Also, my return flight originates in Dublin - I can get a train or flight from London to Dublin for the return, but if I wasn't on that original flight to London, am I out of luck on the return?
I posted this on the airlines forum as well but not sure how busy that forum is...

With some airlines if you don't show up for an expected sector, they may cancel the remainding sectors. You'd need to check with the airline and get it in writing. I wouldn't rely on advice from a travel forum.

Is the airfare still cheap if you indicate when booking that you'll be making your own way overland/sea from London to Dublin? i.e. a multi-city booking You'd expect that NYC-London, Dublin-London-NYC should be the same price.

If you don;t take both legs of your incoming flight - you will be considered a know show - and your return flight will be cancelled. (You can ask the airline directly - but I'm sure this is the answer they will give). If you haven;t already bought the tickets I suggest you get tickets to wherever you really want to go.

If you have them already - I think you will have to go on to Dublin and then find a way back to London.

Not only will the rest of your itinerary probably be voided -- you could face serious issues when you try to go through immigration at LHR.

No airline will 'put it in writing' that you only need to use the first half of your ticket . . . and in your case, not even the entire first half of your booking. You aren't booking to London, you are booking to Dublin.

It appears that the price is based on a round-trip purchase only - can't make single leg purchases...
