Norwegian Air from California to London?
Norwegian Air price to London is about $200 less than round-trip fares of other airlines. I would like to know if anyone has flown Norwegian Air across the Atlantic and what the experience has been. Are the planes old? Are they well maintained? Do the flights have a history of delays? Thanks!

Norwegian is a low cost carrier. They extract revenue differently and provide different model of "service." You can easily look up airline ratings at sites like http://www.airlinequality.com/Forum/norwegian.htm, http://www.airlineratings.com/passen.../135/norwegian,

Check for the extra fees you will be charged (luggage, food, etc.) in addition to the airfare.
If it's only a $200 difference, I would stick with a legacy carrier. At least you know what you are getting.

Norwegian's fares matrix does show 2 columns and advises that you take the slightly higher fare called lowfare+ which includes the extras such as hold baggage, seat reservation & meals if you require those options. I have flown on them several times within Europe & really like them, but I have not travelled longhaul with them. I don't notice any difference between BA or Norwegian, except that Norwegian's planes are much newer and the IFE is much better. They have a brand new fleet and the planes have free wifi and you hook up to their network to watch films etc on your own device.
There are no check in desks at the airport, which is very common with low cost airlines. You must check in online and at the airport, you would print your own tag from the kiosk and take your bag to bag drop. There are few if any staff around. This is the same as most if not all low cost airlines which you might be already used to. I had a delay once on Norwegian which was due to bad weather at Copenhagen, all airlines were obviously delayed. They provided vouchers for food, not much, but they did provide something which they handed out at the bag drop area.
The reviews seem to be either people hating the experience (those with unrealistic expectations mostly) or loving it and nothing in between. I would not dismiss the option of Norwegian, especially not in favour of a legacy US airline. Now that, I would avoid.
As for the question of are their planes old, this might give you some perspective:-

I'm considering flying Norwegian in PE this summer from Geneva to JFK (change of plane in Copenhagen). Maybe spend a night or two in Copenhagen before heading to the U.S. Reviews have been pretty good, at least about their PE cabin, and the price is decent.
