Norway in Nutshell
We are going to Norway in January 2010.
If I want to spend 6 days in Norway how long I should spend on "Norway in Nutshell "Tour from Oslo? Also what are the sights one must see? What do you reccomend in Oslo? How long in Oslo? Any help is appreciated |
Norway in a Nutshell can be done in a day going from Oslo to Bergen. I do not think that you need to spend more time on that part of the trip. With 6 days you will not have much more time than visiting Oslo and Bergen with Norway in a Nutshell in between.

Oops. I just noticed that you said January. I am not sure that such a trip would be worthwhile given the brevity of the day. The fjord part of the trip starts around 2 p.m., so I would check the daylight hours for that time of the year. The trip is not worth doing in darkness.

oslo we loved
unexpectedly it is such a lovely city-it is so nice seeing people using their city enjoying it instead of scuttling home after work..we so enjoyed watching people relaxing with friends in the outdoor eateries and pubs so stay at least two night do go to the war resistance museum on the island of bygdoy - easy access it is quite a small museum so not overwhelming but it touched us profoundly we also saw the open air museum but for us it wasnt as good as the one in stockholm - skansen we liked the harbour area of oslo it is very festive in summer but i doubt it will be in january it can get dark as early as 330 or even earlier and stays dim til 10 or even 11am in the depths of winter we stayed at the lovely lovely gabelhus - Tower here at fodors recommended it and we even changed our itinerary so we could book two nights it is in a beautiful area- quiet yet there are restaurants close by and transport ( we had a car and they do have parking facilities) they had breakfast and dinner included in the price - unheard of anywhere i have ever stayed- the dinner part! big help with saving some money if you need to we loved frogner park but i guess in the winter it would look different lol they regularly hose vigelands statues so i guess theyd be out there doing the same in winter those statues were amazing- never seen anything like it and wish we couldve gone back again we stayed in lillehammer - that would be a lovely town to visit during the ski season with its pedestrian main street nice shopping too pretty lake flam - too that is a special place for us we stayed right on the aurland fjord there in the wonderful two bed apartments - marina apartments flam is great when the daytrippers leave we used it as a base for three nights it was lovely to come home to after a day out see what you think of stalheim - a bus can take you out there and people rave about the view and hotel we saw it towards the end of our stay in norway and werent so impressed having been to geiranger balestrand oye and lom- with the car we saw so many beautiful spots we were bursting and so was my memory card! |
it can get dark as early as 3:30 or even earlier
and stays dim til 10 or even 11am in the depths of winter For me, that would rule out Norway in a Nutshell. |
