Norway in a Nutshell Tour & Luggage Advice

We just returned from our 3 week adventure. Thanks Bjorn and all others for your guidance.

On our Oslo to Bergen via Nutshell route, I wanted to share our experience regarding our luggage. We tried to make the express luggage reservations from the train station in Trondheim (the express service transports your luggage from one place to the next in Norway, so you don't have to drag it yourself). They said we had to make the arrangements at the Oslo train station.

Well, Norway's rail site about this says the express luggage place is open from 7:00 a.m., which would work, we thought, because we arrived in Oslo from Trondheim about then, and were taking the 8:11 a.m. train to Myrdal. Wrong!! The express luggage place doesn't open until 9:00 a.m. (clearly posted outside the luggage lockers at the Oslo station).

Fortunately, we had considered the possibility that we might have to stow our luggage at the Oslo station overnight, and had packed extra clothes in our backpacks for that eventuality.

The luggage lockers in Oslo are huge (and clean!). You can get a couple of good size pieces of luggage in each one. That's what we did.

We saw a bunch of people dragging their luggage from train to train to boat to bus to train (the Nutshell route), and it didn't seem like a big deal, but we were glad we did what we did.
