Norway in a Nutshell Daytrip from Oslo with Overnight Train back to Oslo.

Hello.

I'm seriously considering taking the Norway in a Nutshell one-day tour departing and arriving from Oslo next month during the third week of April. I understand there's a lot of time and travel involved, but have been told that this is something NOT TO BE MISSED!!! The cost is quite high, almost $400US. Is it worth the time, effort and cost to do this? Also, is there any way to reduce the cost of this trip?

Thanks in advance!!!

Ross :-)

We did it from Oslo to Bergen, but I believe that it can be done as a round trip Oslo to Oslo, thus eliminating an overnight(?) trip from presumably Bergen. But it may be that the train schedule that allows the RT from Oslo exists only in the summer months. It is worth it if you are not going to be in fjord country otherwise. I do not recall the cost being quite that high.

We are also interested in this same option for the one day Norway in a Nutshell tour - Oslo back to Oslo. I cannot even find that option or the total cost on any websites I ahve searched, so I am unclear about the toral cost per person (trhere are two of us both in our 50's.) I just read about folks that did this exact trip last year. They did not give the total price however, and I see that they are on a cruise at the moment. If anyone has more information please post it! From what I understand from the posting I read you need to start out at close to 6AM on the train from Oslo and do not return to Oslo until 10:30pm. I think the cost for two is $942!! WOW! That is more than we paid for both our fares for a full week on our Baltic cruise - food, cabin and transportation all included!!!

If you do a Oslo to Voss to Oslo, it costs 1,895.00 NOK = 338.598 USD per person.

If you do Oslo to Bergen to Oslo, it costs 2,160.00 NOK = 385.949 USD This trip includes an overnight on the train back to Oslo. You leave at 8 am and return 6 am the next morning. If you want a sleeping compartment it will cost another 850 NOK per person. 850.00 NOK = 151.878 USD

I would suggest doing just the Oslo to Voss to Oslo. Not only do you see the most impressive sites, you are paying a lot less and you aren't paying for a hotel room for a night that you would be sleeping on a train.

We are doing a Nutshell tour but we are doing a round trip Voss to Voss.

debitnm, I think we are going to be there about the same time!

I'm interested in help in planning 2 days from Bergen to Oslo in mid-April. We will have a car (cheaper and easier when dealing with kids), so we are still trying to figure out what is open and what stops to make.

We will leave Bergen in the morning - say 9ish... planning on driving and would like to stay on a fjord somewhere (many of the hotels we've looked at are closed until May), would like to take the train from Myrdal to Flam, but have to figure it all out with a car. I've read through the Norway in a Nutshell website, but it is so generic.

I'll start a new thread... thanks!

We are staying in Voss at Fleischer's Hotel. Got a decent rate thru Nutshell's Fjord Pass.

{See you on the other thread}
