Norway in a Nutshell - book in advance?

Hello,
I will be in Bergen on September 1st, after 2pm. My friend and I would like to do the "Norway in a Nutshell" on the next day. Do we need to book it in advance or shall we just buy it when in Bergen:
Thank you,
gpm

We bought our tickets in Oslo the day before we wanted to go. Since you want to travel on a Tuesday in September I'd be surprised if you have problems with tickets, especially if you want to start and end in Bergen.

Thanks. I will do it from Bergen to Oslo, one way. Where can I buy it in Bergen? No risk of sold out tickets?
Thanks again.

My understanding is that reservations are only required on some trains from Bergen to Voss or Myrdhal to Bergen and not on the bus or the boats - may not even be possible on these

anyway when i did it there was a special booking office in the Bergen train station that provided info, etc. and sold tickets for each component as a whole.

And it was one of my very most awesome travel experiences in decades of travel

We purchased the complete Norway in a Nutshell tour at the train station a couple of days before we were planning on going.

It was in September and we had no problem.

If you feel uncomfortable waiting to get the tickets then purchase them before you leave home if you can do that.

This is a fantastic tour which we have taken - onece from Oslo and once from Bergen and would do it again.

Did you ever get your final itinerary decided on?

gpm Aug 11th, 2008 12:37 PM

Yes, we did and would like to thank you a lot for your help. We will start in Copenhagen, then fly to Bergen, take the NIN tour to Oslo. Then 2 nights in Oslo, night train to Stockholm, 3 nights there, ferry to Tallinn. Whole day in Tallinn, night train to St Pete, 3 nights there and finally one night in Helsinki.
Any info on hotels in these cities, bratsandbeer?
Thanks

I may be wrong about not being able to reserve the bus and boat portions but if not why buy tickets in advance?

www.norwaynutshell.com i believe is the official site or similar to it

When we did the NINS trip, it was very early June and we purchased our tickets the day before the trip. We did Oslo-Oslo in 24 hr. In hindsite, it would have been better to break up the trip in 2 segments to fully appreciate the trip.

The scenery is utterly amazing and the Flam railway trip is simply jaw dropping gorgeous.

I envy you for having this trip to look forward to! ENJOY!

Hi, there isn't many tour operators like NINS in Norway. But have a look at nordic-experience.no as well.

They've got a different way to present partly the same as NINS does and in smaller groups. NINS have more departures which is good if you don't book in advance but may get a bit too big, the groups of travellers, for my taste.

I tried Nordic Experience last year and it was really a nice way to see and learn about Norway. You really get to know the guide and the people you're travelling with.

Norway is truly a beautiful country with extraordinary nature.

Go and explore
