Norway Help- Haugesund to Bergen
I can get a cheap flight out of London on ryanair to Haugesund, Norway in Sept. My final destination is Bergen. Does anyone know how far the Haugesund airport is from Bergen and what means of transportation there might be to get to Bergen?
Thanks,
colleenk

I don't know where Haugesund airport is, but there are buses into Haugesund. From there to Bergen, there are buses or fast catamarans (www.flaggruten.no).

Thank you- do you have any idea how long it would take to get from Haugesund to Bergen or the approxmiate distance between the 2 cities?

The catamaran takes less than three hours from Haugesund to Bergen. Dep Haugesund around 1 during workdays, at 2:15 in the weekends.
Distance Haugesund-Bergen is not far air or seawise. Going by bus or car, however, is a logn distance, due to all the mountains and fjord branches in the area.
Haugesund is a very very good starting point for exploring the Hardanger peninsula and for a one-way excursion to Bergen. Highlights are the Barony of Rosendal under the Folgefonn Glacier, the Sørfjorden branch of Hardanger Fjord with Ullensvang. Ulvik - Voss --- you name it.
Flaggruten is operated by Hardanger Bus and Ferry company (HSD). Main web site for all is http://www.hsd.no Good site with lots of excursion and sightseeing suggestions.
Welcome to Norway
Bjorn, Oslo

The ferry departs several times a day and is preferable. The bus takes about 3,5 hours and runs every two hours.

The inner route through the fjord branches Bjorn talked about is longer, but is more rewarding. (Bjorn, you've been missed :)
Thanks Bjorn and Helen. I may end up flying into Oslo instead because it is much less travel time from the US.If that's the case I'll probably do the Norway in a Nutshell tour from Oslo to Bergen on September 15th. Is it still running at that time in September? And will it still be light enough to see all the scenery along the way if it doesn't get into Bergen until 8:15 pm?
Thanks,
colleenk

The Nutshell runs year round. It should be enough light in September (still on summertime clockwise). Hopefully you will have time to enjoy Bergen the following morning.
