Norway fjords by car
What would be the best 3 days route Bergen -Alesund to see fjords and countryside? Is it possible to find accommodations without having reservations? How about private rooms? When we traveled France, Germany or Spain we saw signs "free rooms". Is this the case for Norway too? We are going to have a car.
Thank you! |
anyone?Please, help!

We drove the opposite direction in August 2001 and had an awesome time seeing the Troll Road, Geiranger, Briksdalbreen Glacier, Lake Lovatnet, and Flaam. We did stay at some great inexpensive places too-the most memorable being a cabin in Geiranger and an apartment on Lake Lovatnet. Read the full trip report here:

zebra: We also drove the same route in the opposite direction. It was beautiful, the roads are good and we had a great time. You will love Alesund and Bergen. If you do a search above on Norway, fiords, Bergen, etc., you will get a lot of information, my own included. Good luck.

Thank you! Great report. What about finding accommodations without making a reservation beforehand? Is it a problem? Since we are going to drive I am not sure where exactly we will end up every day:-) Are there clear signs on the road? Rooms in private houses/farms?

I don't remember seeing that many signs, but the apartment we rented on Lake Lovatnet was one of those that we stayed at without reservations and it was a really awesome place. I do highly recommend that you definitely plan on staying in Geiranger-it's gorgeous. Most campgrounds seemed to have little cabins for rent too.

Chris, how do we find them if there no signs:-)?
|
Sorry, I meant THAT particular one did have a sign. Happy planning.

zebra: We stayed at the Union Hotel at Geiranger and the Kvikne Hotel at Balestrand. Both are beautiful, especially the Kvikne. However, we saw many rooms for rent signs as we drove around the fjords. That may not be the terminology that was used (I don't remember), but the indication was very clear. You won't have any trouble finding these.
