I'm always baffled by those whose first comment on visiting Norway is how expensive it is. When I decided to add another six days onto my itinerary after disembarking in Bergen from a two week National Geographic tour, one of the first things I did was to look at the exchange rate. By the time I had my itinerary in hand, I knew how much my hotels would cost along with my meals and transportation and even the price of a cup of coffee. My budget was not necessarily modest but regardless of how large or small one's budget is, knowing costs including such seemingly insignificance things as coffee, a slice of pizza and even a Big Mac is essential. Personally, I don't remember Norway being expensive and that's because I had a very clear idea of costs and adjusted by budget before I arrived. It seems so many people's first reaction to Norway is how expensive it is. A bit sad, all I remember is all the beautiful scenery and wonderful sites I saw.
Regarding maps, Norway is probably the only place I've visited where I never had a map. My trip being only six days limited me geographically. I relied completely on websites and guide books. I'm sure you can order a map from Amazon.
