Cover as much as you can by boat (Hurtigrouten) and train/bus. If you drive, the driver won't see much of the countryside because he/she will be busy watching the road.

We chose to drive from Bergen to Trondheim because we would see more by seeing the area between the fjords themselves. We figured that the cost would be about the same. You might want to take a look at my trip report; click on my name to find it.

We drove from Goteburg Sweden to Oslo and then on to Voss last year. Driving in and close to the cities was pretty nerve wracking. Driving on the Expressway was tricky, the exit names are long and hard to read. IF you do drive, be sure to have Norwegian money for tolls or sign up for a toll pass. We got a ticket when we had to go through an automated toll as we didn't have the correct money and didn't know how to pay for the toll. The toll was $3 and it came with a $55 penalty.
