Are these flights usually on time with departure and arrival in Rome?

no, have limoservice picking us up. Just wondering if I should tell them to come at a later time than when the flight comes in. I also get a little anxious here and there and like to prepare ahead of time. ; )

The limo service should ask for your flight itinerary so they can call ahead of time for the ETA.

Don't plan on NW being on time. Having the limo service check with the airline for your fight arrival is a good idea.

It can take anywhere from 15-20 mintues up to a couple hours to get through passport control, depending on day of arrival, time of arrival, and if they have any special security checks in place.

Is it really Northwest or is a KLM code share with NW? If KLM operated, it is a different breed of cats.
I think the flight is operared by KLM because you connect in Amsterdam.
All KLM-NW flights to Europe that I know of are not actually operated to NW.

Northwest has a non-stop flight from Detroit to Rome. I didn't read that the poster is connecting in Amsterdam.

bob brown, I am considering a KLM flight from Boston to Athens that connects in Amsterdam, and the web site indicates that the Boston to Amsterdam portion is operated by Northwest. Why do you call it a different breed of cats? Anything I should know about KLM and/or Northwest before booking this flight?

KLM has an extensive route structure in Europe. When you connect in Amsterdam, you'll most likely be taking a 737 onward to Athens. One difference I've noticed on those I've used: instead of 2-2 seating in first class, it's still 3-3 (so don't bother).

It also sometimes happens that you have to stop by the "transfer desk" in Amsterdam Schiphol airport to pick up boarding passes for your continuation flight. I've flown Northwest/KLM a lot and I think they're fine.

We took the Northwest flight from Detroit to Rome direct on September 19th. Left Detroit on time at about 5:25PM and arrived a bit early in Rome at around 8:15AM.

For the record, I do not find any non stop flights from Detroit to Rome. All connect somewhere.

Given the somewhat snipish comments about NW and KLM, I checked deeper.
The flights are operated by KLM.

As for the breed of cats, I simply meant that KLM is a different airline. The two airlines codeshare, but that is about the only similarity. I have flown both, and have limited gripes.

In fact, KLM got me over and back between Atlanta and Zürich
quite nicely.
Northwest has gotten me from Atlanta to Calgary more than once as well.

All of the flights are long in terms of hours. Most of the limo services check the anticipated times of arrival and try to accommodate their customers.

I hate to break your record, Bob, but Northwest has a direct flight to Rome:

When you check the NWA website for flights, the first one that pops up when you "Search by schedule" is the direct flight from Detroit to Rome. You sure don't have to dig very deep to find it - and, its a NWA flight, not a KLM codeshare.

I flew that flight in May 2001 on the deal of my life (six seats, at $900 per person in business class, all taxes included, originating in Evansville, IN).

I believe that it was on time. Like I can actually remember.

And like that actually means anything for the day you're going to take it.

But thanks for letting me reminisce... about the last trip I (we) took with my dearly departed father-in-law.

I recently checked with NW about direct flights from DTW to Rome. It is direct seasonally,mid-May to sometime in the Fall, so when we go in April we have to make a connection.

Don't count on NWA on getting you on time. Just did the Detroit Amsterdam route and lost all connections in both direction. On the way out 5 hours late and on the way back 3. Nice.

Actually, NWA's ontime record is quite good. I've flown DTW-London, DTW-Amsterdam, DTW-Paris etc. several times and never left late.

going TO Rome it IS a direct flight from detroit to Rome. Andrea at Limo Service wrote that this flight is most always on time.

We will be coming back from Venice and will have connections through Amsterdam at that point.
