San Sebastian is a must Laura. You can see all the Art and architecture in Madrid and Barcelona but you can't duplicate the atmosphere here. Weber...How did you ever find a pintxos bar in the Parte Vieja (your Marshlands Blog picture)that you could actually see the array of goodies without happy people elbow to elbow? La Cuchara de San Telmo was my favorite thanks to Maribel who obviously like the Fois!

Laura,
I've got a few pictures on Flickr.com if you're interested.

Laura,
As you see this board is filled with Northern Spain lovers, and particularly those totally in love with San Sebastián!

Friendly Rentals does have an ample and quite nice selection of short term rentals there-some luxury, others more moderate. I am attracted to the Chillida, Balenciaga, Elkano and Kursaal one bedroom apartments. The Balenciaga is downtown around the corner from the marvelous (!!!) Mercado de San Martín.

And for a 4-5 day Madrid rental, I would choose their El Prado apartment with its fantastic location off the Plaza de la Independencia, just a block from El Retiro park and 4 blocks from the Prado, on Calle Valenzuela. This is quite an elegant area of the city, plus the flat has been well reviewed here by Love2Plan.

Again, if you have your heart set on the Riojan countryside for winery touring, and your Spanish is limited, I would seek the help of an agency specializing in Northern Spain to book that short term rental for you.

weber,
What a perfect location you had in S.S.

I agree completely that Belén of Totally Spain is a treasure! I'm very proud to say that she and her husband are our friends. They attended our wedding, we visited their home, we've spent time in their well-manned offices. When we see them again in a few weeks at a trade fair, I shall be sure to pass along your kind words to Belén. She goes far beyond the call of duty to enrich the holidays of her clients.
