Northern Ireland
 

My wife and I will be in Northern Ireland in mid Sept. After a 3 day conferencein Belfast we will have a car and are free to explore for 3 more days. WE ARE IN OUR LATE 50'S well travelled and interested in touring ,scenery,history and especially meeting local people. hotels ,B and B's ,Inn's all of interest. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Duke, <BR> <BR>My best time in NI was staying at the Meadows B&B in Cushendall on the east coast and visiting the nearby Glenariff Forest Park. Be sure to take the waterfall walk, it's magical. I wasn't that excited about the Giants Causeway, but it's worth looking at if you are on that part of the coast. Have a grand time!

There's another post titled "Belfast, Ireland" with many suggestions. There are also numerous previous postings. Just do a search. <BR> <BR>One piece of advice, when you do meet local people, avoid talking politics.

Take one day to go the UlsterFolk and Transport Museum, about eight miles from Belfast at Hoywood (East of Belfast. This is an open air, living museum of 176 acres of homes from all walks of life, shops, churches, schools, mills, etc., all from the 18th and 19th Centuries. Then take two days to go North via the very scenic B94 off A8. Continue to Portrush, a quaint working man's resort area. Walk the seaside resort area. Lunch here. Take in the Giant Causeway. Your here. It is unique and worth the time. Take a Bushills' Tour. Even if you are teetotalers, the architecture and the process are very interesting. A "tast" isn't bad either. Perhaps, stay at Bushmill's Inn; restored 1800s Coaching Inn. Great! Next morning take the Antrim Coastal drive making sure you go into several of the "Glens of Antrim".; beautiful views,and quaint towns. Be sure to stop at Carrick-a-Rede-Rope Bridge.It is a wooden plank bridge with rope handrails strung between two cliffs and passes over raging surf. Next is Carrickfergus Castle; huge and in great repair. Welunched in the little adjacent town. Don't remeber it's name. Finally visit the ancestral home of Andrew Jackson. It is a representation of the home that was originally here and very interesting. You will be a short distance to Belfast at this point. Very pretty country. Friendly people. And, some things to see. We went in 1996 as part of a twenty-five day drive around The Republic of Ireland and and Northern Ireland.
