I can't suggest a hotel, and I don't know your means of transportation, but I'd suggest stopping for a day in Karlovy Vary (the spa town also known as Carlsbad). I think you'll really enjoy the town.

Sorry, Bob, I don't think I can be of much help. Karlovy Vary is an option, but I find it to be quite much out of the way.
Be forewarned: I remember bad experiences with hotels on the Czech side of the border. It is an absolutely non-touristy area and remained the "charm" of socialist times. I found many hotels (and towns) to be quite shabby. I definitely recommend to stay on the German side of the border. Countless options there. If I recall correctly you will travel early Dec? So, either stay in a village in the Ore Mountains (Erzgebirge) where you can soak up Christmas atmosphere or pick a village southeast of Dresden in the Elbe river valley - this region is called "Saxon Switzerland" for its beautiful scenery. Since you did not tell us a price range I don't know what to recommend. Please, give me an idea! Ingo |
I liked the Hotel de Saxe near the railway station in Teplice. The road from Dresden is pleasant: Dippoldswalde, Asltenberg, Teplice. Next day you drive via Lovosice to Prague. The hotel has dome English speaking staff, but you will do best if you e mail them in advance to ask the rates and to book:
[email protected]. There is a picture of the hotel at http://www.motylek.com/teplice/de_saxe/cesky.asp, but the site is in Czech. They may be closed for renovation: in that case I suggest the Hotel Thermal. |
