Northern Cyprus

I am interested in going to Cyprus in November. Please let's not get into the politics of this concerning correct names, which side started what, which side is 'in the right', which side would not vote to approve whatever, etc.
I am thinking of going to Northern Cyprus because I hear the costs are much, much less there
than in Southern Cyprus.
I would like to know from people WHO HAVE NO AXE TO GRIND about
(a) the relative costs of North vs South Cyprus,
(b) the merits of sights to see (outdoors and museums, etc.) in North vs South (not interested in any night clubbing),
(c) availability of apartments to rent for several weeks,
(d) how does one fly into the North,
(e) what is the latest situation about moving across the border in either direction having landed at airport on either side?

Thanks

I can't answer as to accommodation, costs, or any of the other practical questions as it has been many years since I spent some time in Cyprus, and that was before the Turkish invasion in 1974.

However, the sights to see there make it well worth a visit: the port of Kyrenia and its castle, Bellapais Abbey, the ruined crusader castles in the mountains (St. Hilarion and Buffavento), the walled city of Famagusta, and the ruins of the ancient city of Salamis are a few of the many places in Northern Cyprus that are well worth seeing.

What's the value of a conscience?

I am booked to travel to Northern Cyprus on 13 September 2004 for two weeks staying at the Onar Village, Kyrenia so will report back on return.
The attraction is the many interesting sights described in previous message, value for money and less commercialised although I guess this may be about to change.
My advice is go before that happens.

Just back from a week in North Cyprus. Sights are wonderful but be careful of safety as steps and drops can be completly ungarded when visiting castles and other historic sights. People are wonderful and far more understanding than those in the South. crime is non existant and if night clubing is not your thing then North Cyprus is for you, where a night out with the boys will probibly have you sea fishing off the peir or playing back gammon on a bench in the street. Full of great places to eat cheeply a meal with wine should cost no more than 20 million TL, don't take fright it is only about €10. Generally things cost less than 50% of costs in the South. To fly in you have to stop off in Turkey for about 45 minutes before you fly on to ERCAN airport which is only about 40 mins drive from Kyrenia, Nicosea, or Famagusta. weather in November should be very pleasent in the mid 20c. You can cross over to the south, but I beleive you can only stay for three days(I could be wrong)Have a wonderful time, with some of the most hospitable people I have ever met.
