Northamptonshire, England
Have been invited to an event at a Castle in Northamptonshire, England. Not at all familiar with the area and wanted to see if anyone knows how far it is from London and the character of the Northamptonshire area.

Hi Julie

Where abouts in Northamptonshire?

Depending on whereabouts in the county you will be its about an hour or so from London - straight down the M1 motorway.

It is a quite rural area with no enormous cities but has several pleasant maket towns.

I'm from somewhere else in the UK so hopefully someone with more local knowledge will help you out.

Andy

I live in Nortamptonshire about ten minutes walk from Rockingham castle. Is this the castle you want to visit? It is about two hours by road from central London given reasonable traffic conditions. Andy is right, it is a mostly rural area with some very quaint villages and some historic landmarks.

Keir

Which castle?

There is Rockingham Castle, near Corby in Northamptonshire. Or maybe you are talking about Castle Ashby, which in fact is not a castle at all but is a very large house built on the site of a castle.

I live in Northamptonshire myself. It is around 70 miles from London. Most of the county is very rural with some pretty landscapes and numerous small towns and villages.

Northampton itself is a large town well known for it's shoe industry. The musuem contains a complete history of the shoe industry. Northampton also has 78 Derngate, the only completed work outside Scotland by Charles Rennie Mackintosh, the art nouveau/deco artist and designer.

Northamptonshire is also the location of Althorp, the burial place of Diana, the princess of wales.
