I would like to take my mother to visit the village of Revo, the birtplace of her grandparents, in the Dolomites somewhere near Trentino (I think). Does anyone have recommendations for flights? Venice or otherwise? Sightseeing and lodging ideas would be most welcome as well.

Some certain responses will be:
1. What is you US departure city?
2. What is your budget?
3. When are you travelling?
4. Have you done ANY travel "homework"?
5. What are your/mother's interest?
6. Age/health of your mother?
These are just a few of the responses you'll receive.

My Mother has no health limitations and would be most interested in seeing the countryside, small villages and churches and art. We are very flexible as to departure and arrival cities. We hope to leave in early August for 7 -10 days. No budget limits. Do you have any suggestions?

You are going to an interesting but fairly untouristed part of Italy, and given your mother's preference to see small villages and the countryside, you are going to have to do a lot of digging on your own to put together an itinerary.

If you want help from the board about flights, tell people what part of the world you are departing from. You will probably need to rent a car. Venice or Milan would appear to be good places to begin your journey. However, if you are thinking of making this trip this coming August, you will have to work quickly. Many Italians and other Europeans vacation in these mountains in August.

PS: Flying into Venice and out of Milan might work well for you. You might also check out whether you can take advantage of cheap flights into any of these smaller aiports.

You sound a bit vague about the area and the whole idea. I suggest you get a travel agent who specializes in Italy, and ask them to be booked, in September, into a comfortable seaside place at the southern end of the Lago di Garda, the Garda lake, some nice resort where you'll be looked after.
You'll fly into Milan, go on to Brescia or Verona (depending on just where your hotel will be) and take ground transportation from there, either a hotel shuttle or a local bus. The agent will figure that out for you if it's really someone who specializes in the area.
You'll be worn out because on the trip over you'll miss out on a night's sleep, but you'll have to keep going regardless. Spend the first couple of days recuperating and looking around the immediate surroundings, and ask the hotel to refer you to a travel agency that can help with that trip to Revo.
There may be a local bus from Trento to Revo - but first you take the train or a local bus company to Trento, then from there it's a good 30 miles north, into the mountains, first on the main Bolzano-Brenner expressway, soon on a smaller mountain road, until you get to the lake Santa Giustiana and Revo. It's a tiny village of hardly more than 1000 souls, so you'll need local knowledge and advice to make it there and back.
For the rest of your vacation, be assured that nearby Verona and Padua and, a bit futher east on the same train line, Venice will have plenty to offer. And the lake itself is gorgeous.

WallyKringen, that just the info I needed. My mother is former airline employee so we are flying for free and can go either Venice or Milan. I neded the name of the lake near Revo which none of my guidebooks have listed. I am hoping to use our conceirge in Venice to help the the driving details. I have some leads for smaller hotels in the area but would love some review from someone who has been there.
