Normandy - what should I expect regarding tolls and gas stations?

My family will be driving from Rennes - MSM - D Day beaches - Honfleur - Beauvais over 4 days this July. Will tolls only accept coins or will they take paper currency? Does it need to be exact?

I have read that gas stations will not be able to process my US credit card unless an attendant is available. How easy will it be to find a staffed station?

Thank you

I would try to have a bunch of coins to feed the toll meters. I can't recall how many to Normandy but shouldn't be more than 3 or so. there are slots for bills usually

true on the gas stations - I fill up when a 1/2 down to be safe at attendant stations so as to not take a chance of finding stations - most big super markets have attended stations I think and at interstate rest stops - once you fine your base, look for the attended stations as one can travel a long ways on diesel before filling up

attended stations are less common on Sunday, notes will do, the pictures over the tolls explain what they want. Telepage is for electronic pick up (you will not have this) others have signs saying "no bikes on roof" plus a picture of a bike on a roof crossed out and then one showing notes and coins.

Thanks for the tips. We live in the Pacific Northwest so have very little experience with roadway tolls even in the US.

My recoolection is that we paid one toll out of Pris, but that otherwise we paid no tolls in Normandy. At any rate you can always choose an lane that has a booth with an attendant and pay either cash or with a credit card.

You can stay on the toll road if you are in a hurry or leave it to take a secondary road to where you are headed
