I respect soldiers of all nations except SS troops
However US came a long way to fight foreign troops on foreign soil helping foreign people - always found it exceptional.

His big battle was at Sadzot. My husband and I went there and walked all over the village. They erected a nice monument there for them.

Swandav, communication and technology have changed so much for the better. I think the civilian death toll in Normandy is just something people overlook and how far we have come in regards to that at least. We stopped for gas in Belgium and I walked across the road to check out the little cemetery full of civilians but a whole Lancaster crew from the UK lined up in a row. I think that is why five hours is not enough to explore. So much to stop and see and take in.

I did a Normandy WWII tour as a day trip from Paris, it's not difficult at all. You have most of the day there, after all, and the day I went, there was a direct train back to Paris at 6:45 or so. So I was back for dinner by 9, and the day was the same for me as if I had just done sightseeing in Paris all day. In fact, probably less rigorous due to the two train trips.

I did do the half day tour just like cilburke with Normandy Sightseeing Tours. I visited the tapestry before the tour, easy to do as I got there around 10 am and the tour started around 1 pm or so. The guide was excellent.

I don't think you can get there in time to do an early morning day trip even if you wanted one for all day. A five hour one was enough for me. The all day tours start at 8:30 by Normandy Sightseeing, I'm sure not much different by any other operator. It is impossible to get there that early, the earliest train is around 7 am and gets there about 9:30 am. But if you mean spend one day in Bayeux and stay overnight for an all day tour, sure you can. I wouldn't personally want to spend all day just sightseeing in Bayeux, but perhaps others do that and maybe I'm forgetting all there is to do there. I only recall the cathedral and tapestry museum. Of course you can do that if you really want an all day tour.
