Normandy Coast \ DDay Tour: Lodging Advice
 

Hello,
Considering a side-trip of visiting the Normandy Coast (DDay tour) after a week in Ireland. We are Americans living in Zurich, Switzerland... so we thought about stopping to visit the Normandy coast on the way to Zurich form Ireland. I know it's not the most convenient side trip... but thought it was worth seeing...

(I'd appreciate thoughts... is this worthwhile???)

Anyway... if we make the addtl journey... I"m looking for lodging advice.

Ive read the posts recommending LaLande and the B&B run by the Victory Tours people. LaLande might not have accomodations when we'll be there... and I'm waiting for a response from the other place.

Does anyone else have any suggestions??? I'm looking for loding 1 or 2 nights, and for a good tour guide.

We stayed at the Hotel Churchill in Bayeau a few years back and had a great time. The location is perfect.

Regarding tours, I I were to do it again I would either do lots of research and use my own car or, if you want a really highend tour there is a British ex-War College professor that leads very indepth tours. YOu'll find him with a quick google search.

IMHO - Every American should go to Normandy. It's awe inspiring and humbling at the same time.

Don't forget to see the tapestry in Bayeau while you're there.

A trip to Normanday is very rewarding,not only for the WWII history, but for the pretty countryside and excellent food.
Bayeaux is a lovely medieval town and Hotel Lion d'Or is well located in the center with a wonderful restaurant.

We will bestaying in the area near St Lo in a B&B I found with great recommendations. One look at the house & I was sold! Plus it is fairly reasonable. The reviews also said the owner gave great guided tours of the DDay sites. Take a look: http://www.la-ducrie.com/

My wife and I, while staying in Paris, took a train to Bayeux and stayed at a really very convenient place right off the main street and convenient to the Bayeux Tapestries (don't miss for another "war") and steps away from some nice restaurants and the Cathedral. We were easily able to get a bus tour to the Normandy sites. I must admit, however, that I would prefer driving myself if I have it to do over. The place we stayed at was the Hotel D'Argouges at <[email protected]> I'm sure you could google them also to see the very nice building. Check it out!

Chateau Bellefontaine in Bayeux - the junior suite at the front of the building - lovely and spacious; beautiful garden.

Weve decided on staying at LaLande... looks nice... Ive read so many nice things... and the owner can give us a nice private guided tour of the DDay beaches.

We are considering a similar trip to the Normandy area in late April, and will have roughly 4 days in the region. We have 2 young children (1 and 4) and will be driving our own car. Do you have any recommendations for child friendly hotels, sites, activities, etc...?
