You were lucky to go in May before the heat wave and the tourist wave.

Great report. We want to go to Normandy (still giving MR Starbucks hell for talking me out of it on our first trip to Paris). We also want to spend more time in Alsace and am interested in Kaysersburg.
would love to go to Taittinger at some point. I love Reims and the caves at Ruinart were spectacular!

Yes, we were fortunate with the weather and the crowds. On the weather point, temperatures were such that we didn't need AC (or much heat) in our lodgings, but I should probably mention that the 2 VRBO rentals and the hotel in Verdun did not have AC. I doubt that would ever be an issue in Port-en-Bessin except in the most extreme heat wave, with the house being right on the water front, and plenty of ventilation. However, I could see the lack of AC being an issue in Colmar at certain points, and Verdun as well. Something to keep in mind if you are interested in staying in those places in the summer time.
