Normandy/Brittany Driving Times/Distances
 

I am looking into several options on how to spend 2 days after leaving Mt.St. Michel prior to returning for a week in Paris. Do we check out the Loire Valley or go into Brittany? I've explored the Loire valley option already and am now entertaining the Brittany question deeper. My question is: what is the timing &amp; distance (we will be driving) from Mt. St. Michel to Dinard, then to Vannes? Is this enough for 1 day? The next we could spend exploring the area around Nantes, stay the evening, and leave the car at Rennes and train it back to Paris?<BR>Does this sound like the best way to do this? Or does the time we have allow us to cover more ground? Thanks.

I can't tell you those drive times specifically, but having been to Normandy, MSM and Paimpol last September, it seemed to me that the drive times on www.viamichelin.com were way too &quot;aggressive&quot; (and I do not drive slow). I really don't know actual drive times..but we stationed ourselves in 1 spot in Brittany( Questembert) and drove to everything we wanted to see each day, encountering unexpected places along the way. We did the same thing in Normandy. Stayed in Le vey , south and east of caen. we did Honfleur, Bayeux, Arromanches,MsM. cancale everything along the whole beach coast in circular or triangular routes. Did not have to move from place ot place, had a home base, found interesting and out of the way places we would have missed otherwise. <BR><BR>we had a friend who rented a house in Brittany and they did Brittany and Normandy from there. The driving is easy and while it looks far on a map it is not. And really after walking around Honfleur for an hour or 2 there is really not that much to see..you can eat, take pictures, enjoy it all in a few hours then be on your way.Bayeaux takes a while longer, MSM if you are really not going into it in depth is aswarm with tourists and is best enjoyed after they all leave, so you might want to spend a night there. we personally did not find it as interesting as St Michael's Mount in england.

Thank you for your replies. I am not familiar as to were Quesembert is exactly. My Fodors book may doesn't show it. Can you give me a general direction? I was thinking of staying along the Atlantic Coast.

It is just slightly..maybe 10 miles to the east of Vannes. We saw all the way up to Brest from there. And were most delighted in Quimper, we hit market day. The whole area is a delight.
