Normandy Beach
 

I want to go to Normandy during my stay in Paris. If I join the museum tour, they will take me to the Normandy beach which costs 75 euro.....the price on Rick Steve is outdated...they increased the price.

Is it possible to go to the beach by foot/do-it-yourself? Or should one join the group and pay over $100 dollars? Is it worth it?

You can definitely tour the landing beaches, cemeteries, and museums on your own. The target area is sixty miles wide, so walking isn't a viable option, but if you're a fairly strong cyclist, you could do it without too much trouble.

Another option is to acquire a bus pass from www.busverts.fr and be willing to accept whatever schedules and convenience they can offer.

Which museum tour are you referring to? And what is the full itinerary of the tour?

If it's Paris to the D-Day Beaches and return to Paris for 100 dollars, that saves a lot hassle (I would have no problem with it).

I have heard that bus service in that area is infrequent.

The D-Day tour services in Bayeaux pick up in the early am typically. It might be possible to do the Paris to Bayeaux train and get there early enough, but you would have to be up really early and the Bayeaux train station is not near the main pick-up point (the tourist info office).

You should research the sights/stops for the 'museum tour' and look at Greyline, Viator, and other tour service that you can find.

No, you can't do a tour of the D-Day beaches on foot unless you have a week or so.

Which museum are you referring to? There are loads of them in Normandy?

I believe Battlebus tours will pick you up at the train station in Bayeux, but it would be early (and you should confirm that - I've just read it, don't know for sure). The Mémorial in Caen also offers D-Day beach tours, but I don't know about cost or timing.

If that's $100 for picking you up, taking you to Normandy for a day, and back to Paris, I would say that's quite a bargain.

Frankly, the best bet is really battle bus, but they are all booked up.

Ride the train to the Bayeux station - try to get PREM fares
Join one of the private tours there - some of them are 70€ PER CARLOAD of up to 5 or 7 passengers
