Normandy area hotel

Will be going to Paris for 7 days would like to take a train to Normandy. Probably staying for a night or 2 in Bayeux. We are not sure on the days and may not until we are there. going Nov. 17-25. Would I need to make reservations ahead of time or will rooms at this time of yr be easy to obtain. How about train tickets. I was thinking of purchasing them when we get to Paris.

You can probably purchase tickets the same day as you travel at the Gare St-Lazare. I almost always make hotel reservations in advance, but that's because I hate to waste even an hour or two of a vacation searching for a hotel. And unless you've rented a car in Bayeux, you won't find it easy to go looking for hotels once you get there,
We loved the Château de la Bellefontaine, not far from the train station, in a rural setting by 5 minutes on foot to the town.

You might go to www.sncf and see if there are any PREM fares left for your journey. We got them for Caen-Paris in May and paid only 15 euro/person, but we had bought them almost 60 days in advance. It would be worth a try, I'd think. (We'd stayed in Bayeux, but drove the rental car to Caen; PREM fare not possible from Bayeux)

We stayed at the Hotel d'Argouges in Bayeux, which is w/in walking distance of many things in the town, inc. the Tapestry. It's a 2 star; the common rooms are charmingly furnished, and the bedrooms are more than adequate, if not particularly stylish. Parking on premises, very friendly, helpful staff.

Another vote for Hotel d'Argouges in Bayeux.

We were in Bayeax for the 60th Anniversary of D-day. Easy to purchase train tickets but it was crowded. I thought everyone was going to Normandy - they all got off at the stop for Giverny!

Because of the timeing, we made arrangements to stay at Hotel d'Argouges in Bayeux. We also opted not to get a car as there was enough to do in town before we met up with our veterans and tour.
