Normandy
 

Is it possible to take a train from Paris to Normandy? Is it possible to arrange just the tour once we get to Normandy. Any tour companies you suggest? The tours which pick you up at your Paris hotel and then take you to Normandy are out of budget. Help really appreciated.

My wife and I did this tour 2 yrs ago. You can book your own train tickets ar let them do it. we did our own through raileurope. They pick you up at the station and take you to the Museum @ Caen which includes tour, film that shows Allies and germans preparing simultaneously ( great), you then get a great sit down lunch and then it is off to the beaches which include Arromanches ( artifical harbor) gun emplacements bunkers etc, Omaha Beach, and one in a lifetime experience @ the US Cemetery ( at least for me it was) Again link paris is a well run operation. Total for both of us 2yrs ago including rail was under $500US

It is possible to get from Paris (not CDG) to Normandy by train. If you're not renting a car, I'd suggest taking train to Bayeux, where you could pick up a tour for WWII sites, which I imagine is what you're referring to. Otherwise, take train to Caen and rent car there.

From Bayeux, I highly recommend Battlebus tours. Pick up point is near the Tapestry. You do need to reserve in advance b/c each tour is limited to 7-8 people and also to ensure your choice of tours. Our guide was excellent and it was a very interesting and worthwhile full day.

My son and I also took a Battlebus tour of the Normandy D-Day beaches a few years ago and it was amazing! The tour guide was great, it was a day we will never forget. I haven't looked at their website recently but I remember that you could choose the type of tour you wanted depending on what things you want to see.

To get to Normandy (from Paris) we just bought our own train tickets from home, using the first website grandmere linked to above. We also arranged the Battlebus tour beforehand, from their website. We stayed in Bayeux for three days and it really is a lovely town with much to see (cathedral, tapestry, etc) and it's perfectly located for a daytrip to the D-Day beaches.

In Bayeux we stayed at the Hotel d'Argouges and loved it! Such nice owners and such a beautiful little place, and also good value compared to the price of similar places in Paris.

That LinkParis tour really sounds nice if you want only a one-day trip to Normandy, as everything is done for you, and you get to see the Caen Memorial Museum (which is certainly worth seeing). The Battlebus tours (which really sound wonderful) would only work, I believe, if you are spending a night or 2 in Bayeux, because of time limits. I spent 2 weeks in Normandy a couple of years ago, with a car, so I did it all on my own. However, I regret not taking the full day Battlebus tour! Now I want to go back to do that.
