Were is a good place to crash on beach for a few days . We are thinking of going the end of Sept. begining of Oct. I read about Deauville Any hotel and restaurant suggestion would really help. Thanks

Well, the end of September and beginning of October is generally not beach weather anymore, especially in northern France. It's possible it could still be warm enough but you can't really count on it. If you really want to be on the beach in France at that time of year you would be safer in the south of France. The better (meaning sandy) beaches in the south of France are mostly (but not all) around Cannes, Saint Tropez and further west in The Camargue.

Even the beaches in the south of France will be cold that time of year. The water in the Med is freezing (to me) even in mid-summer. On the Atlantic side, it's no better (though Saint-Jean-de-Luz is gorgeous that time of year).

Do you actually mean lie on the beach and swim? Not going to happen in Normandy that time of year. If you just want coast/ sea views/walks on the beach with a sweater and windbreaker, then Deauville or Trouville are certainly good spots.

If you want to crash on a beach in September and early October head forget Normandy and head for the Med. The water is at its best after July and August and is certainly warmer than the Atlantic.

Actually, September has some extremely nice days still, although of course the end of September has fewer of them. If you are from Scandinavia, you will still find the beaches lovely and the water still warm from the summer, but most people will give the area a pass unless the objective is to walk along beautiful deserted beach with adequate clothing.

I am not an expert with hotel and restaurant recommendations as I usually do self catering places so I don't need hotels and restaurants. I am originally from Boston so I am used to cool/cold water and I don't find the Med. to be a problem at that time of year, provided the weather is still warmish. If you decide to head for the Med. then I would suggest you post again and mention the region you are interested in and you will find plenty of helpful suggestions for hotels and restaurants here on the forum. The more specific you are, the more plentiful and helpful you will find the responses. I had mentioned the areas in the Med. where you would find the sandy beaches and StCirq had mentioned the area around Saint Jean de Luz on the Atlantic as the alternative. As we have mentioned, the unpredictable factor at that time of the year (end of Sept./early Oct.) will be the weather. Hope this helps a bit.
