Non-Touristy places in North Wales?
 

Hi, just wondering if you guys have any recommendations?

I went up Hope Mountain the other weekend, which was amazing, and there was nobody there...

I've been to the coast and a few other more well known places and found it too busy and generally not the best

Generally if you stay away from the coast you will find no one. Trouble is that the number of hotels and pubs tend to drop of as well, in fact I know one valley where the main employer pays pubs not to open during the day to avoid drink in his staff's blood stream (not heard of cans).

What sort of places and things are you looking for?

It depends which bits of the coast you have been to as there are large areas where you won't see many people. You need to avoid the tourist traps of Colwyn Bay and Rhyll. The same applies to the mountains as long as you avoid places like Snowdon.

The further down the peninsula you get the less 'touristy' it feels.

I had to smile when I saw the title -- there really isn't aren't any overly touristy places anywhere in north/mid Wales. Now, on a Summer weekend there will be more people in scenic spots, and a couple of towns and parts of Snowdonia can be busy any time 'in season'. But most of the time and most anywhere you will find a LOT of solitude.

You went up Hope Mountain? Not exactly on the tourist trail. Did you visit Caergwrle castle too?

Flint, Denbigh, the Denbigh moors, St Asaph, Mold, Wrexham? What about Pontcysyllte aquaduct, slightly more touristy but worth a visit as are Castell Dinas Bran and vale Crucis Abbey. Llyn Brenig has a nice walk past some prehistoric remains.
Northeast Wales is not generally on tourists lists, but has some lovely places, and wild countryside too.

For Snowdonia choose any valley apart from the one containing the hell hole that is Llanberis, and head up, suitably attired of course. You will not meet many, if any people. Or head to southern Snowdonia.
Head over to Anglesey for softer scenery and some very ancient churches and the like.
