To: St.Cirq: Is the restaurant at Maison Fournaise open year round? Renoir's painting of the Luncheon of the Boating Party is my wife's favourite. Which RER train? How long a ride? Also, Which RER to Auvers sur Oise? Likewise, is the restaurant open for lunch year round. I was surprised to read that the VanGoghs were buried in France and not Holland. I'm assuming both trips would be day trips.
Thank you for your info.

Dave, you mention that Senlis is "the second most charming town in France". Just curious, what is your "first" most charming? By the way, a daytrip to Senlis sounds perfect.

My "first most beautiful town in France" is Honfleur. (Yes, I know it's jammed with tourists in the summer, but by some miracle even then the amazing charm shines through.) When I first departed from Honfleur 17 years ago, I felt something very much like heartache.

Thomas, try www.sncf.com. Looks like you can take a commuter train from Gare Nord or the RER from Austerlitz. Obtained the following

PARIS AUSTERLITZ RER C 07h03 RER C
ST OUEN L AUMONE 08h08

ST OUEN L AUMONE 08h20 Commuter train
AUVERS SUR OISE 08h31

Thomas:

To get to La Maison Fournaise, take the RER A to the Rueil Malmaison stop (maybe a 15-minute ride). Follow the signs to Chatou et walk 500m onto the bridge. In the middle of the bridge, take the patch leading down to the right, which ends at the restaurant and museum.

According to the website, it's open 7 days a week, every day of the year. See:
